Look Up

I've felt like a bit of a hermit lately. I am over-working myself. My mind is kind of mushy. I am a little grumpy all around. But I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is one big project (of many) that has a happy ending: A Few of my Favorite Things
(It's seriously hard to write words in bakers twine, by the way...)

I went outside today to take out the trash (not too glamorous, I know). I felt like an animal that has been in a design-induced hibernation. I was wearing a hat, hiding under its brim. I thought I might spend a few moments noticing things at ground level. But then I had the thought, "Look up!" I glanced up and saw a small hummingbird sitting on the power line. He was very still. And I thought I should refill his feeder, since he asked me to look up at him, and then stayed while I admired his delicate beak and body. (Alas, no photo, though.)

So I filled and hung his feeder. I noticed a patch of sunshine peeking through cloud cover, just as the bells from the Catholic church a few blocks down started ringing out a hymn.

Sometimes it's nice to just look up.

I agree - I think moms of little ones, particularly, spend way too much time looking down!

Great photos, and fabulous advice on my blog - thank you so much!

Hang in there with your project. I know how we can so easily get buried by work. This was a very poetic post and very inspirational. And, I love your hummingbird feeder! Where did you find that beautiful thing?

Lyndsay, once again, your talents cease to amaze me. Really, you have a gift.

I hope you get some time to just relax and do NO work!
